What is Mold?
Mold is a type of fungus that flourishes in damp, wet, warm environments. It grows on food, other plants, and even on or inside the walls and floors of our homes. Low airflow and dim light can contribute to mold growth, which is why it’s often found in basements and inside walls. Mold is made up of millions of tiny spores that when breathed in, can be a serious health risk, especially for children, elderly people, and anyone with respiratory health problems.
Mold can grow pretty much anywhere, but you need to be especially vigilant if you live in a warm, humid climate or have experienced flooding or water damage in your home. Delta Restoration Services looks at the big picture when it comes to mold and mildew. We address the root cause of your home’s mold problem to stop the mold from coming back after we treat the current infestation. Our technicians are also experts in water damage, so we can identify and repair any underlying water damage issues that are making your home susceptible to harmful mold growth.
What is Black Mold?
Black mold – scientific name Stachybotrys chartarum – is a type of mold that’s often referred to as the most dangerous, toxic form of mold you’ll encounter. However, it’s important to know that while black mold is certainly dangerous, other types of mold can be extremely harmful to your health too, so you shouldn’t ignore mold growth in your home just because it’s grey or green in color instead of black. Black mold produces highly toxic byproducts called mycotoxins that are extremely harmful when inhaled. Symptoms of black mold exposure include nausea, fatigue, respiratory problems, skin inflammation, and mental impairment.
